I have always loved swimming. As a child I went to lessons and then swam competitively. To me, it is one of the most important things you can learn as it is a life saving skill. If I hadn’t swam as a child, I think I would have missed out on so much fun. Now, as a parent, the safety aspect of it is so much more important.
Until having my daughter at the end of 2008 I always worked in the City. When my maternity leave was coming to an end I had to make a decision about whether to go back. I had started taking my daughter to swimming classes with Jo since she was 5 months old and the pleasure we both got from it was immense. The more I thought about it the more I decided to train as a swimming teacher and follow my dream. I have always wanted to be a swimming instructor and now the time seemed right.
I took the STA baby and toddler qualification in August 2009 and then the STA level 1 in October 2009. I consider myself to be very lucky to be in a position where I can do something that I feel so passionately about. My main aim is to give the children the confidence to enjoy being in the water and really enjoy swimming and I hope it gives them as much pleasure as they grow up as it did me.
